Mystery Runs

Postby Paula on Thu Dec 31, 2009 7:29 am

The mystery runs are going great. This Wednesday's run was 11-miles of ups and downs led by Mary Smith. The route left from the Ragged Moutain trail head off Route 17, across Gillette Road, then looped around Barnestown, Howe Hill, Barnestown and back across Gillette.

Last weeks mystery run was led by Steve Cartright. We ran up the Waldoboro side (backside) of Howe Hill, then ran through the blueberry barrens to the very top. The 360 degree view was unbelievable, you could see to the ocean on one side to the White Moutains on the other and everything in between. In all we ran about 8-miles.

Two weeks ago we ran the Biscay Pond loop in Breman/Damariscotta which I led. Plenty of parking can be found at the Biscay Pond Beach and once of the Biscay Road, running around the pond is virtually car free. This loop is also 8-miles with gentle hills.

Three weeks ago Theresa took us along Route 52, along the Megunticook River and throughout Camden. We have also run Pleasant Moutain Road into Hope and back down Route 17 to 90 and a few other locations.

For those not familiar with the mystery runs, it was something I came up with to allow everyone to be a leader and for us as runners to discover areas we may not have ever run on our own. We started out as a group of 3 and now have 4. We meet every Wednesday in the morning, usually at 8:30, at a set location determined by that weeks leader. There are no limits to length, terrain or location; we are just told where to meet. The leaders word is final and off we go. All are welcome to join our runs or feel free to start you own mystery run with your buddies. It's fun, exciting and keeps you motivated on days when it might have been easier to blow it off, not to mention it's a lot easier to do hills when you don't even notice them because you're deep in conversation.
